More than 50 State Department officials signed an internal memo protesting U.S. policy in Syria, calling for targeted U.S. military strikes against the regime of Bashar al-Assad and urging regime change as the only way to defeat ISIS. Because, you know, screwing around in places like Syria has worked out so well this far. Why not double down?

Radical Agenda EP156 – Dissent Channel

The internal memo was sent throughout the “dissent channel,” a mechanism for State Department officials to offer alternative views on foreign policy. Dissent cables are not that unusual, but the large number of cosigners on this one was.

Not wanting to be left out of the bad advice game, the Department of Homeland Security suggests that words like “jihad” and “sharia” should not be used when describing the Islamic State and other terrorist groups. Perhaps next we can leave out words like “vagina” and “cervix” from gynecologists’ offices to avoid upsetting transgender people.

Speaking of gender confusion, the annual Porcupine Freedom Festival starts this Sunday! We’ll talk a little bit more about their fine lineup of events, like the “Aspie Anything!” event, an AMA-styled panel dedicated to “putting the spotlight on autistic folks who are also libertarians and how these can sometimes intersect”. Also, the “neurodiversity movement” (aka, crazy is the new normal) has responded to our discussion about them, and it’s a doozy.
