Radical Agenda EP055 – Anti-Science

I made the mistake of watching the “First In The South Democratic Forum” over the weekend. Among all the pandering to women, gays, and ethnic minorities and between promises of free stuff, one other thing the candidates touted really irritated me. Democrats perpetually insist they are the party that believes in science. This is usually done in response to their dubious claims about “climate change” (Formerly known as global cooling, then global warming). But they repeat this over and over again on a range of issues from racial disparities, to gender egalitarianism, right down to the absurd insistence that people can change their gender and schools ought to be forced to make boys and girls shower together.

Radical Agenda EP055 – Anti-Science

What do you get when you trust government with science? An immeasurable number of people convicted, imprisoned, and even executed on completely bogus pseudo-science.

The Justice Department and FBI have formally acknowledged that nearly every examiner in an elite FBI forensic unit gave flawed testimony in almost all trials in which they offered evidence against criminal defendants over more than a two-decade period before 2000. Of 28 examiners with the FBI Laboratory’s microscopic hair comparison unit, 26 overstated forensic matches in ways that favored prosecutors in more than 95 percent of the 268 trials reviewed so far, according to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Innocence Project. The cases include those of 32 defendants sentenced to death. Of those, 14 have been executed or died in prison.

The admissions mark a watershed in one of the country’s largest forensic scandals, highlighting the failure of the nation’s courts for decades to keep bogus scientific information from juries.

While hair samples don’t tie into what we commonly term as political correctness, that is exactly what caused this disaster. Political correctness, in the sense that what scientists and scientific journals had published was completely false, but was deemed correct simply because it was accepted by people of a certain status. Juries ignored reality, and instead trusted doctors in white coats before sentencing men to decades, life in prison, or even death.

I’ve mentioned it before, but it bears repeating and I’ll go into a bit more detail on this episode. This leftist grip on the sciences is a thing we were warned about a long time ago. From Alan Sokal and the “Science Wars” of the mid ’90s, we got “Higher Superstition: The Academic Left and its Quarrels With Science” in which scientists Paul Gross and Norman Levitt warn that leftist influences on science and academia posed a threat to the very concept of science, and perhaps even the survival of the species.

Fast forward to October of 2015, when Bo and Benjamin Winegard see the problem as it has come to fruition in their paper “A Social Science Without Sacred Values“. In it, they discussed the “paranoid egalitarian meliorist” as having virtually taken over the sciences and academia, and their hostility toward the very concept of science making honest intellectual inquiry impossible. Their hostilities towards certain inquiries, combined with the popularity of their nonsense ideas chases out true intellectuals, they gain the seats of power, their biases influence hiring, and peer review. The bias in hiring and peer review, then feeds back into the system, since only those who agree with their anti-scientific worldview can get hired or get their papers reviewed by respected peers. And on the cycle goes as mankind’s very capacity to understand the universe is diminished to the point of worshipping volcano gods and human sacrifice.

The Democratic party doesn’t “believe in science” they have spent decades trying to destroy it.

In other news, cops are rapists. Academia is now pushing “fat activism” in the classroom. Your cat may be plotting your murder. Daycare workers fired for refusing to call a girl a boy. And of course, your calls at 218-936-0815 or Radical Agenda on Skype.

Radical Agenda EP008 – Guns and Polyamory

I had originally asked Lauren Rumpler to come into the studio to discuss polyamory. Polyamory is, in short, having more than two partners in a romantic/sexual relationship. I wanted to discuss it and take a pro-monogamy position myself.

Then I got caught up in a self defense incident where I became the number one story on reddit, because I pulled a gun out on some drunk lunatics in Keene. So I figure we’ll spend some time discussing that, and at this point I’m just happy I’m alive and didn’t have to kill anybody.

Show starts today, Monday, May 11th at 5:30pm Eastern. Call 218-936-0815 or hit us up on Skype username Radical Agenda, if you would like to be on the program. Continue reading

Radical Agenda EP007 – Heresy with Tom Woods

Tom Woods will be joining me this Friday, May 8th for the 7th episode of Radical Agenda. I’m gitty, because Tom is one of my favorite podcasters, though that certainly isn’t his most impressive credential. Tom is a senior fellow at the Mises Institute, one of few libertarian institutions I still hold in high regard. He’s the author of 12 books, the most recent of which is “Real Dissent: A Libertarian Sets Fire to the Index Card of Allowable Opinion“. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Harvard and his master’s, M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Columbia University.

Tom had me on his program last year, and surprisingly enough, he doesn’t hate me yet. Let’s see how long we can put that off.

Tom is a very busy guy. I had originally reached out to him after his appearance at the Mises Circle in Houston where he gave a talk on secession. Aside from giving a great talk on the subject at hand, he made this really excellent statement about the state of political discourse in America today;

One of my themes over the years has been that the American political and media classes behave as if, there is a 3×5 card of allowable opinion. And if you stray from that 3×5 card, you will be smeared, condemned, written out of polite society. You won’t be refuted, that’s one thing you can guarantee. You can make all the reasonable arguments you want, but if you’re taking a position that is held by neither Mitt Romney nor Hillary Clinton, you are wrong by definition. So there is no need to refute you. All we need to do, as Lew Rockwell says is just point and say “Eeek! A Mouse!”. There’s no need to respond to anything we’re saying. We peons don’t deserve a refutation from our betters. So when I am invariably smeared for talking about themes like this, it’s completely expected. That’s what the media classes do. You strayed from the 3×5 card you’re not entitled to a refutation. If you get up at an event like this, and you say that I do not believe that a system in which 320 million diverse people are ruled infallibly by a single city, is the most humane form of political organization, that eminently reasonable statement will not be refuted. You will simply be smeared and condemned, you’re obviously crazy. You’re crazy. This is the best way to organize society, and it’s so obviously the best way, that even to question it makes you a heretic.

Well I’m very glad to be a heretic in this bizarro world.

I feel the same way, Tom, and not just with the media classes. Those who purport to be our own people are doing this to us now. It’s almost as if the New York Times had an intern program, where you practice smearing libertarians by pretending to be one for a few years before you get to join their team.

Lucky for us, we’ve got podcasting, affordable web hosting options, social media, and other means by which to deliver our message directly to interested parties.

Join Tom and I for another exciting episode of Radical Agenda, a show about common sense extremism. This and every Friday from 5-7pm Eastern. Give me a ring at 218-936-0815, or connect with Skype username Radical Agenda, if you would like to be on the program.
